Our Upcoming Japan Journey: Three Weeks in Kyoto

Slated for:  November 1, 2021

With Kyoto and Tokyo in mind for our next Japan Journey, we are reading Alex Kerr’s Another Kyoto and Pico Iyer’s The Lady and the Monk: Four Seasons in Kyoto,  and A Beginner’s Guide to Japan.

Our first step is to book a historical ryokan for two nights. Since we will spend more for these exceptional and traditional accommodations, we will set those dates first and work the rest of our trip from here.

We are also reading Mineko Iwasaki’s autobiographical Geisha of Gion. The book Memoirs of a Geisha and the movie are based on Mineko Iwasaki life but are terribly inaccurate in  important ways. Read Iwasaki’s book for a true account of Gion’s Floating World, where we plan to stay for part of our next visit to Japan.

The Philosopher's Path in Kyoto

We also plan to rent a Gion home while in Kyoto

This home sleeps 5 and is located close to the Philosopher's Path.
