Takumi

Japan will afford you a 'situation’ of living your life the way it ought to be, where you will be elevated to that which is untranslatable, where you will journey to the horizon, the very edge of English where it's structure and western ways of thinking no longer apply.  Let us walk beyond that horizon together.  Like looking into a mirror, you will see something of your possibilities in each person you meet under their cherry blossom umbrella of kindness, beauty, earnestness, and subtle gesture.     - tnm

OMOTENASHI: unique to Japan and one of its greatest national treasures. Omote means public face, the feeling image of the character of a person, nashi means nothing, honest, no hiding, no pretending, where guests feel moments are both at ease and unforgettable.  see Gladwell for more.

Takumi, 60,000 hours to become a ”world class” artisan in Japan.  


This is a commercial lens with which to experience takumi. But I prefer the sentience of takumi, the way it makes me feel that has little to do with commerce and everything to do with a life well lived.
